Objective: At the end of the course the students will be given an introductory knowledge about the engineering analysis of the automobile and its sub-systems, application of engineering principles to automotive design. Students will be familiarized with modeling and analysis methods. They will gain the ability to analyze the automobile systems and performances using the mathematical models in computer software, MATLAB.
Content: This course emphasizes systems approach to automotive design. Specific topics include automotive structures, suspension, steering, brakes, and driveline. Basic vehicle dynamics in the performance and handling modes are discussed. An individual term project is required.
